Production incentives

Make local spend work harder.

Both countries offer a 30% incentive on qualifying local production spend. The route, eligible costs and application steps differ, so we help you assess the right structure early.

PL / Poland
30%

On qualifying Polish production spend.

Eligible examples include production and post-production, equipment rental and production services, and fees for cast, crew and creatives. Costs must be incurred in Poland and sourced from Polish companies.

  • Project test: at least 51% on the cultural qualification test, plus a minimum Polish spend that depends on format and production model.
  • Local applicant: a Polish co-producer or locally registered company. At least 75% of project financing must be confirmed when applying.
  • When to apply: no earlier than 12 months before the supported work begins, and always before it starts. Applications are in Polish.
  • How it is paid: PISF settles after the supported work and positive verification of the final cost report.

HU / Hungary
30%

With a route to 37.5% effective support.

The incentive covers eligible direct production costs. Certain eligible costs outside Hungary may be included up to 25% of Hungarian eligible spend, which can raise the effective return on Hungarian spend to 37.5%.

  • Project tests: cultural qualification (16 points) and Hungarian participation classification (15 points).
  • Local producer: an NFO-registered Hungarian company applies; a foreign producer needs a service or co-production agreement with that company.
  • Registration & timing: register the production and report the start of filming. Principal photography must begin within six months of the registration decision.
  • How it is paid: post-financed through the NFI Collection Account after eligible costs are documented and verified.

How the process works

Plan it in before the shoot.

01 / Test the project

Confirm format, cultural test, minimum local spend, financing status and current fund availability.

02 / Set up locally

Agree the Polish or Hungarian production structure and submit before covered work starts. Hungary also requires production registration and a reported shoot start.

03 / Track & settle

Keep invoices and cost records throughout production. The incentive is settled after eligible spend is checked against the final report.

Guidance checked September 2026. Rates are headline figures, not a guaranteed return. Eligible costs, project thresholds, application windows and annual funds can change; confirm the current rules with PISF and NFI before budgeting or publication.
